The Horse Slaughterer's Daughter

by Fiona Flint

It is 1871. A teenage tryst backfires and Mary arrives in Sheerness shorn and shamed, looking for someone to make an honest woman of her. But is love to be found in a beer shop in Blue Town? And how will she know it if she finds it?

A Victorian coming of age story set in dingy alleyways among fallen women and bare-knuckle fighters which asks what 'love' looks like. Nobody comes out smelling of roses.

Historical Novelist

A voracious reader of historical novels, I began writing when I became a mum and found myself awake at night, full of ideas. My background is in dark age archeology but  nowadays I enjoy stalking my ancestors in Victorian newspapers.
